Hendrik Smith

Hendrik Smith is from Bloemfontein in South Africa. He graduated from the University of The Free State with a BA in Education specialising in Engineering and Graphic Design as well as Technology. After teaching in South Africa for a year, Mr Smith decided to move to Hangzhou China to expand his career as a teacher. He has now been teaching English in China for two and a half years.

 

While working in China Mr Smith also studied a CELT-P and multiple TKT certificates. During his time in China as an educator, he has grown fond of teaching English to young learners. Mr Smith believes that as an educator we are actively cultivating the next generation of leaders and therefore, have a responsibility to equip these students with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to help them lead to the best of their abilities. He believes in having a culturally inclusive classroom that promotes student participation and focuses on verbal-linguistic intelligence through English emersion.

 

Outside of work Mr Smith enjoys living an active and healthy lifestyle. He is also passionate about photography and has been selected as one of the official photographers of Hangzhou’s Xianghu Lake for the year 2021. Alongside photography, he is also an enthusiastic traveller that attempts to travel whenever the opportunity arises. Mr Smith enjoys continuing his teaching career at Wellington College Hangzhou. He is thankful for the opportunity to work at a world class institution that will allow him to further his growth and development as a teacher while working alongside other education experts.
