Piers Vokins

Piers studied English and Social Studies at Leeds University. He completed his MA in TESOL and PGCE (11-18) at Sheffield Hallam University and took a second teaching Diploma specialising in second language learners at Trinity College London and holds QTS for both children and adults. Piers has worked extensively in teacher training and curriculum development. Piers has taught at secondary, sixth form and university level in Paris, Prague, Nur-Sultan, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Macao, Jersey and now in Hangzhou. He has held positions of responsibility at Nottingham Ningbo, Nazarbayev University, and the British Council but prefers to be in the classroom working with students.

 

His research interests include CLIL and giving written/oral feedback to students. Piers enjoys using authentic materials in the language classroom, as he believes they are intrinsically motivating and make use of game like activities when appropriate. Piers is from Jersey in the UK but has lived abroad for the last 20 years. Outside of school he enjoys spending time with his daughter who goes to Wellington College International Hangzhou and walking his dog, Fluffy. Reading, watching movies and cooking are all favourite pastimes.
