Interacting with AI will become an essential skill for everyone to acquire, and computational thinking serves as the gateway to mastering this crucial capability.

Computational thinking refers to the ability to solve problems, understand data and generate innovative ideas. As an extension of mathematical thinking, it has grown increasingly vital in modern society and holds significant importance for personal development.

Bebras is an international computational thinking competition designed to foster pupils' interest in computational thinking and information technology. The competition caters to various age groups from primary school through high school and even university levels. In New Zealand, it targets pupils from Year 4 to Year 13, while the UK division includes participants from Year 2 to Year 13.

The distinctive feature of Bebras lies in its accessibility - it does not require programming skills, making it equally appealing to pupils with strong mathematical abilities. The competition primarily focuses on cultivating computational thinking skills through solving challenging problems, logical reasoning and abstract thinking. It encourages participants to develop problem-solving strategies, pattern recognition, algorithmic thinking and data processing capabilities.

Bebras competition questions encompass diverse computational thinking concepts spanning information science, computer science, logical reasoning and digital concepts, helping pupils enhance their analytical skills and solution-finding abilities.

This competition not only stimulates pupils' interest in computational thinking but also nurtures teamwork, innovation and problem-solving competencies. As such, Bebras is recognised as a valuable platform that promotes pupils' growth in computational thinking and accumulates practical experience for future career development.
