On 7 November, the Hiba Academy Hangzhou community came together for a vibrant celebration of our annual Culture Diversity Day, a dazzling showcase of the world's cultures that brought to life our school's guiding ethos: "Be You. Be More." Through music, dance, food and art, pupils, parents and staff embraced their roles as learners, connectors and changemakers, discovering the beauty of countries across five continents.
The gym buzzed with excitement as it transformed into a global village, featuring 32 interactive booths—each a window into a different culture. From crafting Mexican handicrafts at the Grade 1 booths to savouring American delicacies at the Grade 5 station, every corner offered hands-on learning.
The rich diversity of traditions highlighted our school's international spirit, proving that every culture has a unique story to share.
The event kicked off with a heartwarming opening performance, as pupils from Grades 1 to 5 sang a beautiful song celebrating unity and diversity, their voices filling the gym with joy and setting the tone for the day. They also embarked on a colourful 'parade of nations,' dressed in traditional attire as they explored booths themed by continent.
Grade 6–8 pupils deepened their connections through activities like Indian dances and Turkish calligraphy, showcasing how cultural exchange fosters understanding.
We Are Learners
Culture Diversity Day was more than observation—it was about active participation. Pupils collected stamps in their booklets as they learned to greet each other in Korean, tried on Kenyan kikoi, or uncovered the secrets behind Swiss chocolate. By engaging with parent volunteers and peers, they embodied our belief that learning extends beyond the classroom.
We Are Connectors
The event thrived on collaboration. Over 100 parent volunteers shared their traditions, while pupil performers bridged cultures through music and dance—from a lively Filipino tinikling dance to a soulful German piano recital.
We Are Changemakers
Small actions created big ripples. Pupils designed meaningful 'Thank You Cards' for parent volunteers, reinforcing that kindness is a universal language. The event also aligned with SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), prompting reflection: How can we celebrate differences while fostering inclusivity every day?
'Diversity isn't just a day—it's how we live.' Culture Diversity Day was a microcosm of Hiba Academy Hangzhou's mission: to nurture pupils who own their identities ('Be You'), engage empathetically ('Be More'), and turn insights into action ('Changemakers'). Whether through sharing Chinese dumplings or discussing global citizenship, these experiences plant seeds for a more connected world.
Thank you to everyone who made this day unforgettable. Let's carry the spirit of Culture Diversity Day forward, celebrating diversity not just on the day, but every day.
